Inactives for Tonight’s Game:
Sonics: Gelabale, Swift
Lakers: Bynum, Mihm, Ariza
10:18 Kobe scores the third and fourth points of the night for the Lakers, after driving into the lane and drawing the foul. Kobe’s attempt wouldn’t have been possible without a nifty tap off of Turiaf’s missed shot by an extremely active Radmanovic. On the previous possession, Vladimir nailed an eight footer to put L.A. on the board.
8:52 Ronny throws down a two-handed jam on the break after a great pass by Fisher. The Lakers have jumped out to an early 12-2 lead on the undermanned Sonics. It’s been a balanced effort so far too as all five starters have scored already.
6:07 Odom swishes his third shot in a row to take over the lead in scoring for the Lakers with six points. Lamar’s picked up right where he left off in Salt Lake City last night, looking for his own shot and shooting the ball with incredible confidence. Kobe and Radmanovic have four points a piece for L.A.
4:58 Fisher ties Lamar for the early scoring lead, drilling a wide-open three-pointer for his sixth point of the night. As a team, the Lakers are shooting an exceptional nine of 13 from the field, compared to a paltry four of 15 for the Sonics.
3:36 Turiaf makes a great catch on the ally-oop pass from Radmanovic and lays it up off glass to give the Lakers an 11 point lead at 24-13. Ronny has four points and four rebounds on the night.
3:02 Farmar enters the game for the first time tonight, replacing a very productive Fisher.
1:28 Once again, Turiaf is the beneficiary of an outstanding pass by one of his teammates–this time by Bryant. On the Lakers’ next play, Kobe threw another perfect pass to Odom that led to an uncontested layup.
12:00 The Lakers open up with a lineup of all reserves on the floor except for Radmanovic: Walton, Mbenga, Farmar and Vujacic.
9:33 Farmar gets the Lakers on the board for the first time in the second quarter, draining a three pointer to put L.A. up 37-28 just when it looked like momentum might be turning a little bit. Although the Lakers have cooled off a little bit, they are still shooting an impressive 15 of 26 from the field.
8:01 Vladi shocks the STAPLES Center crowd by following up a missed shot with a dunk off of the miss. Ramnaovic has been extremely productive early, with six points and four rebounds while showcasing his passing abilities too.
6:01 Once again, Radmanovic is the difference maker on offense, nearly losing the ball before tipping it to a wide-open Sasha who nails his second consecutive from beyond the arc. The make gives the Lakers their largest lead of the night at 47-33.
4:49 Kobe returns to the floor and immediately makes his presence known, connecting on nifty layup opportunity. Bryant is tied for the second on the Lakers in scoring at eight, joining Turiaf and Vujacic. However, Kobe hasn’t tried to exercise his scoring prowess so far tonight, passing effectively to open teammates on his way to four assists.
1:54 The Lakers get a much needed hoop from Turiaf underneath for his 12th point of the night already. Prior to the make, the Sonics had come roaring back on the Lakers thanks to a flurry of makes from outside. Seattle’s guard combo of Kevin Durant and Earl Watson in particular have burned L.A. so far, combining for 24 points.
Coming back from a long four game road trip against some of the league’s most difficult opponents, Coach Jackson expressed some concern about his team’s ability to come out of the gates strong against the lowly Sonics. So far, Jackson’s suspicions have been proven correct as the Lakers squandered a double digit lead in the second quarter and only lead the Sonics by eight points at 62-54 at the halfway mark. The Lakers have been sharp on offense so far, with Ronny Turiaf already reach double digits in scoring with 12 points to go along with five rebounds. Kobe and Lamar have 10 points a piece for the Lakers. However, Seattle’s guards have kept the Sonics in the game so far, with Kevin Durant (13 points) proving why he’s a leading contender for Rookie of the Year award honors.
10:14 Lamar Odom puts the Lakers on the board for the first time in the second half with a layup and one after Radmanovic wrestled the offensive rebound off of Kobe’s miss from three outstretched Sonics defenders. Vladi has five rebounds tonight to go with his seven points.
7:45 Radmanovic and Fisher become the latest Lakers to reach double figures, with Derek hitting a 12-footer in the lane, followed by a three pointer that hits nothing but net for Vladi on the Lakers’ next possesion. Six Lakers have at least ten points.
5:54 With the Sonics continuing to hang around, only trailing by 10 points, Kobe demands the ball and connects on a fadeaway jumper for his fourteenth point of the night (6/11 shooting from the field), tying him with Turiaf for the team lead. The Lakers lead 76-54 with less than half of the third quarter remaining.
2:44 Kobe toys with Durant before going up for a face-up jumper from about 18 feet out that puts the Lakers up 81-68. Durant has been quiet in the second half, with the Lakers really tightening up on D when he gets the ball. Another Sonics who had a solid first half–Earl Watson–is scoreless in the second half.
2:25 Mbenga enters the game for L.A.
1:18 Farmar hits his second three of the night on three attempts, once again bumping the Lakers’ lead back to 14 with a little over a minute left in the third.
35.0 Jordan connects on another from beyond the arc, going up with confidence from at least 25 feet out. More importantly, the Lakers are finally showing signs of putting away the pesky Sonics, now up by their largest margin of the game–17 points.
12:00 Sasha’s in the lineup to begin the fourth, spelling Kobe for a bit with the Lakers now up by a comfortable margin.
10:44 Luke makes his second basket in a row, easily dropping in the layup off of yet another nice pass from Vladi. His past two makes were also his first two of the night in 12 minutes of playing time.
8:19 The Lakers have opened up the quarter on fire, with Sasha following another three point make from Farmar by swishing an outside jumper of his own. As a team, the Lakers are shooting 52% from beyond the arc in 21 tries.
7:01 Mbenga continues to surprise with his soft touch around the hoop, getting a nice roll of of the rim for his sixth point of the night. Meanwhile, the Lakers lead 111-85.
5:19 Walton throws a perfect ally-oop pass to a high-flying Jordan Farmar who grabs the ball from the air and lays it in to give L.A. a 25-point lead. Crowd favorite Coby Karl just checked into the game for the Lakers.
3:46 Ira Newble makes his first appearance for the Lakers, replacing an extremely effective Radmanovic in the lineup.
1:47 Coby Karl drives through the lane and dishes to an open Mbenga who drills a 12 footer that hits nothing but net. On the Lakers’ following possession, Walton hit another jumper for his seventeenth point of the night in what has easily been his best statistical game of the season, even if most of his buckets came well after the Lakers had built their large lead.
FINAL SCORE: Sonics 105, Lakers 130
