The Lakers and Kings face off tonight for the third time this season, with each team winning on the other’s home court. Since the Lakers last played against the Kings on March 9 at STAPLES Center, the Kings have won eight of 13 games, including their past four. Due to some off-balance scheduling, the two teams will actually face each other again in the Lakers’ final regular season game next Tuesday.
Although Sacramento star Kevin Martin was battling flu-like symptoms prior to their victory over Denver last night, he still managed to score 36 points and continues to lead the Kings in scoring, averaging almost 24 points a game. Martin doesn’t do it alone though as six Kings score in double figures, including the somewhat surprising 12 points a piece that Udrih and Francisco Garcia score.
With only six games left in the season, the Lakers need to begin their three road trip on the right foot, with critical games against the Spurs and Hornets looming next weekend. While the Kings, Blazers and Clippers may not pose as significant a threat as the rest of the Lakers’ Western Conference foes, they are still dangerous as evidenced by their potentially playoff-busting 118-115 win over the Nuggets last night.
